The Heroes Harbor zone includes a replica of the Morris Island Light. The original one stands on Morris Island at the entrance to Charleston Harbor and is the tallest lighthouse in South Carolina.
The original brick tower, built by the Colony of South Carolina in 1767, was destroyed during the Civil War in 1862... along with over 150 others that were removed or forcibly discontinued on southern coasts. A new one was built in 1876.

Throughout the city, I kept noticing mention of something called the Shag. Known as the Carolina Shag, it has been the official state dance of South Carolina since 1984. Originating in the African American community in the late 1930s, it became popular with beach music the following decade. It is apparently still quite popular today.
