FOURTH OF JULY (Day 6 - part 9)

Then came the fireworks show!

The grand finale! (although stray fireworks kept being shot off for quite a while afterwards)

We had booked a Lyft ride back to the visitor center since it was unclear how late the last shuttles ran. We waited and waited but it simply never showed. There were enormous lines of cars trying to leave (and later we saw that police had blocked off the highway entering town), but it would have been nice if they had informed us of the situation.

Eventually, we decided we were going to have to try for the shuttle. We followed the crowds to a side street outside of the main downtown. Parked there was a long row of shuttles all going to different places. It was quite chaotic and unclear which one was going where, but eventually we were pointed to one that had agreed to make an extra stop for us and a few other folks.

Back at the visitor station, we hopped in the car and drove back to the hotel, arriving at 12:20 in the morning.
